Cape Charles Community Multi-Use Trail Project

Cape Charles is in the process of creating a multi-use trail with the goal of providing better multi modal transportation facilities and to connect different areas of Town, including the Historic District, the harbor area and the Bay Creek development.

Phase 1 (Central Park) and Phase 2 (north Peach Street and Washington Avenue) have been completed.

The design process for Phase 3, south Peach Street, commenced in July 2017. A public input meeting on alternative design concepts was held on August 31, 2017. The Town Council decided to implement a reduced scope Phase 3, encompassing the block of Peach Street between Randolph and Mason Avenues and the entrance to Central Park, as shown on sheets L-201 and L-202 below. Most of the work will occur between Randolph and Mason Avenues and will include: wide sidewalks, parallel parking spots on both sides of the street, a pull-in angle parking median, pedestrian lighting and landscaping. The project was advertised for construction bids in the fall of 2019.  Unfortunately, the bids were too high.  The design has since been revised to reduce costs. We are awaiting final VDOT and Federal Highway Administration approval to again advertise for construction.

Comments on the revised design are welcome at any time and may be sent via bob.panek [at] capecharles.org (email).
