Welcome to the latest round of public input for the
Cape Charles Beachfront Master Plan
On March 29, 2025 and again on April 2, 2025, the Town Council hosted an informal, in-person presentation of the current beachfront design concepts, to see if the Town is moving in the right direction following the last round of public input received. These events were well attended, and we received some great feedback. But for those who were not able to participate in-person, we are posting the presentation materials from these meetings online and offering another opportunity to provide input.
Please note that these materials were designed as aids for in-person discussions, and therefore may not be as effective as standalone materials. However, they do still offer a great overview of where we are, and the history of that area of town.
As a general summary, the latest concept eliminates all but three of the original plaza areas and maintains a natural entrance at all other locations. Parallel parking is retained on east Bay Avenue, with a combination of pull-in and golf cart parking (ratio still to be determined) on the west side. This design also includes an important maintenance feature to trap blowing sand into a channel west of the sidewalk to allow easy removal of that sand back to the beach. The Mason Avenue (Southern Bay Ave) plaza was significantly reduced and now only contains expanded restrooms/showers, an area for vendors with some shade, and the LOVE sign. ADA access is provided at the Jefferson Avenue plaza and off the existing fishing pier. An additional breakwater has also been suggested on the southern part of the beach, which would expand the beach area.
