PUBLIC MESSAGE #15 RE: COVID-19

June 19, 2020

Notice to all residents and business owners:

We are slowly, but steadily making progress toward a safe return to normal life here on the beautiful Eastern Shore.  On Thursday Governor Northam provided a pre-view of his phase 3 protocols, easing us out of current COVID-19 restrictions.  Though we are not sure when phase 3 will be implemented, it became clear that Cape Charles would not be able to hold its traditional 4th of July celebration even under these new parameters.

Therefore, the Town Council very reluctantly decided to cancel our normal 4th of July activities for this year.  But the Mayor and Council still really wanted to do something for our residents to help mark this day.  So similar to the recent golf cart graduation parade held in town, we’ll be organizing a 4th of July patriotic golf cart parade.  This will be limited to only golf carts and will wind through most of town to allow residents and visitors to view it mostly from their porches.  This parade will start at 10 am, and we’ll be putting out more details very soon.  Unfortunately, the Town will not have any other planned 4th of July activities this year.

We all remain very appreciative of everyone’s continued cooperation and compliance with social distancing and other preventive measures necessary to keep everyone safe and healthy, while helping our Town move forward.

John Hozey
Town Manager
