  Planning and Zoning Department

  Tom Bonadeo, Town Planner

The Planning and Zoning Department promotes the public health, safety and welfare through the application of sound planning practices to the administration of the Town’s comprehensive plan, zoning, subdivision, and site development regulations. We will help our community attain its long-term vision through comprehensive planning that takes into account the future needs of our citizens and businesses, as well as our natural and built environments. The short-term goals of our community will be achieved through fair and equitable ordinance enforcement and by offering planning assistance to citizens, businesses, and the Town’s elected and appointed officials. We value the quality of life of our citizens, our growing economy, our Town’s rich heritage, and our natural and built environments.

Eastern Shore Healthy Communities Livability Report

The Eastern Shore Healthy Communities released a summary of findings from their Livable and Walkable Communities Workshop held from July 29 - August 1, 2012. A video takes viewers on the walkability audit through Chincoteague, Onley, Onancock, Cape Charles and Exmore with Dan Burden and Sarah Bowman of the Walkable and Livable Communities Institute, Inc. Recommendations are provided for each town along with before and after pictures of one critical area per town to enhance each site's walkability, safety and appeal to residents and tourists alike. A technical memo offers recommendations, planning techniques and ideas that can be employed on Virginia's Eastern Shore to improve the health, safety, social welfare and economy. Leaders from many Eastern Shore towns participated in the Walkability and Livability Workshops and forums. The information from these workshops are available by clicking the appropriate link below.
