Friends of the Northampton Memorial Library meet on the second Wednesday of each month in the Library at 4:00 PM. We are always looking for and welcome any new volunteers! For additional information about Friends of the Northampton Memorial Library, contact Nan Bennett at 757.331.4689. The Library began in a private home in 1919 and in 1926 it was moved to the vacated First Presbyterian Church. This shingle, Victorian building was built in 1900. The Northampton Memorial Library was dedicated in 1927 to the memory of local men who died in World War I and was the first memorial library in Virginia. A bronze tablet bearing their names is located on the front wall of the library. |

The Northampton Memorial Library provides library services to the citizens of our community, providing resources to educate and stimulate. Eastern Shore residents can receive a library card by bringing proof of residency at the time of application. The Northampton Memorial Library shares an affiliation with the Eastern Shore Public Library in Accomac and shares its collection through an Internet catalog. Two weekly delivery pickup services allow material to move between locations. The NML library contains current and popular books, books on tape and CDs, videos, computer software, large print books, books in Spanish, a basic reference collection, two newspapers and magazines. Four computers are available for public use. Books are checked out for four weeks and all other material for two weeks. Reserves may be put on bestsellers. The NML also offers a weekly storytime for toddlers and preschoolers, a summer reading program and special programs for children and adults.
