LAW ENFORCEMENT INFORMATION SAFE KIDS SATURDAY On Saturday, October 18, 2008 the Cape Charles Police Department and the Town Library will sponsor a Safe Kids Saturday at the Library starting at 10:00 AM. The event will feature Safe Kids videos, a fingerprinting station to register children, bike registration station, various books on Kids Safety that are written especially for children regarding stranger safety & tips on keeping safe. This event is open to all parents and children and the Town wanted to present it prior to Halloween. For additional information contact Chief Dave Eder at 331-3096 or 331-1817 and/or Ann Rutledge (Library) at 331-1300. DESTRUCTION OF POLITICAL SIGNS On Wednesday, October 1, 2008 an unidentified male was observed destroying an election sign that was on the front lawn of a residence on Fig Street. He was described as having a medium build, sandy colored hair, wearing tan shorts and blue shirt and driving a white SUV. The Town does not condone these actions and the Cape Charles Police Department and the Virginia State Police are monitoring all political vandalism cases and will prosecute them to the fullest extent under the law. Investigative efforts continue and a witness has come forward with additional information. TRAFFIC & TREES On Thursday, October 2, 2008 the VDOT & Marshall Tree Service cut down a dead tree located on Route 184 that was located directly across the street from the Town’s Water Treatment Plant. This was a large tree that required shutting down one lane of traffic and also increased the speeds on Route 184 for some unknown reason. Unfortunately some drivers realized too late that this was also the day that the Cape Charles Police Department and the Virginia State Police were conducting speed enforcement operations and they ticketed fifteen (15) drivers for excessive speed on this roadway. The Town thanks VDOT & Marshall Tree Service for helping to make that roadway safer for vehicle traffic. We also ask drivers to please obey the speed limit on Route 184. All of the persons who received tickets were local residents of the Town. Tenth Annual Trooper Troy D. Ashe Memorial Police Pistol Tournament The Tenth Annual Trooper Troy D. Ashe Memorial Police Pistol Tournament will be held at 9:00 AM on October 11, 2008 at the Trooper Troy D. Ashe Memorial Pistol Range located on County Line Road 3/10 mile East of Route 13 in Exmore, VA.
