PUBLIC WORKS Dave Fauber, Director of Public Works, reported that Patrick Christman and Shannon Miller from the Waste Water Treatment Plant recently returned from classes in Charlottesville, VA regarding a Laboratory Practices Conference. This involved laboratory studies, classes, computer related activities and seminars on waste water treatment. Dave said that the PWD continues their work on refurbishing the Town Hall Conference Room into Town offices. The new offices on the second floor will contain the Town Clerk, Assistant Town Clerk, Planner, Assistant to the Planner and a smaller conference room. The public is invited to view the work that the PWD is accomplishing during normal working hours (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM). The PWD received their new dump truck last week to replace the dump truck that was involved in an accident in April 2008. This "new" dump truck is actually a "used" 2006 Ford F350 (with 15,000 miles) that the Town paid $22,000.00 for. This $22,000.00 was less than the $25,000 the Town originally budgeted for and it came at a time when a second truck was necessary to complete many ongoing Town projects. POLICE Chief David Eder reported that on Thursday, August 07, 2008 a 6 year old female resident was approached by two (2) unidentified men who attempted to lure her into their vehicle in the vicinity of the Mason Avenue & Strawberry Street area of the Town of Cape Charles.
Investigative efforts continue. Please contact the police if you have any information regarding this incident. All information provided to the police will be held in strict confidence. The Cape Charles Police Department has received their new utility vehicle and it has been on patrol since last week in the alleyways, on the Beach and the Historic District. The Town expects to save on gas expenses and help the environment with this new vehicle. The CCPD will continue to utilize and "wear test" this vehicle and the Town will later make a determination whether to purchase additional, similar cost saving vehicles.
