LAW ENFORCEMENT ALERT

Chief David Eder reported that on Thursday, August 07, 2008 a 6 year old female resident was approached by two (2) unidentified men who attempted to lure her into their vehicle in the vicinity of the Mason Avenue & Strawberry Street area of the Town of Cape Charles.

This incident occurred between the hours of 300 to 330 PM and the 6 year old reported the incident immediately to her parents who requested that this information be made public ASAP. The information that has been reported to date includes the following:

  1. There were two unidentified men in a “boxy” black car that was described as being covered with rust.
  2. The driver of the vehicle was described as a White male and the passenger, who exited the vehicle and spoke to the 6 year old child, was described as a “balding” Black male.
  3. The Mother of the 6 year old stated that the child told her that the unidentified Black male “chased” her down Strawberry Street (Northbound) in his attempts to lure the child into the vehicle.
  4. There were two (2) unidentified pre-teens who witnessed this event.
  5. The Cape Charles Police Department responded to this incident and a search of the area for the vehicle and unidentified men met with negative results.
  6. The vehicle was last seen proceeding west bound on Mason Avenue traveling towards the Beach.
  7. Anyone having information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Cape Charles Police Department at 331-3096/331-1817 or the Northampton County Sheriff at 911 or 678-0490.
