It's Springtime!The purpose of this electronic newsletter is to pass factual, informative and timely information to the citizens of Cape Charles and to any other individuals who have a business, property, travel or historical interest in our Town.

The information contained in this newsletter is considered to be the “official word" on the Town’s activities as noted by our Town Manager. The Cape Charles Gazette will be a news source that will report weekly events, upcoming Town activities, articles of interest to our citizens, Town projects, safety & security issues, and emergency announcements.

With the upcoming Town Council Retreat (April 16, 17 and 18 , 2008) ; Mayor Dora Sullivan requested that the Town Manager, Joe Vaccaro, provide her and the citizens  of the Town with a list of accomplishments, programs and activities that have been performed since Vaccaro has been here (September 11, 2007 to April 3, 2008). Completed Council Retreat Priorities from 2007

  • Established Human Resource element within the Town as per Council Retreat 2007
  • Revamping Town Personnel Policies, Rules and Regulations as per Town Council Retreat 2007. Updated Town Employee Evaluation Sheet and established a Mid-Year review Process
  • Updated 42 Codes (Traffic Regulations) with Chief Eder and Town Attorney Paul Watson as per Town Council Retreat 2007. Information will be made available to 2008 Town Council Retreat for executive decisions
  • Part-time Recreation Director was previously hired and interfacing with Cape Charles Committee on Children and Youth as per Town Council Retreat 2007
  • Video surveillance equipment set in place at the Harbor and Central Park as per Town Council Retreat 2007
  • Issue regarding Cape Charles Police Department and "patrol coverage" with Northampton County Sheriff's Department has been resolved as per Town Council Retreat 2007. Issue resolved via facts and reports rather than speculative assumptions

* ** Oversight of the Memorandum Of Agreement with various Town organizations who receive taxpayer’s monies. In April 2007, the Town Council directed that the Town ensure that these organizations who receive taxpayer’s monies "offer" something back to the citizens of the Town in return for taxpayer monies. In November 2007 it was determined that the Town would seek this "offer back" in the form of free programs for Children, Youth and the Elderly****

DEBATE OF 2008 TOWN COUNCIL CANDIDATES

The Town of Cape Charles is pleased to announce that the Concerned Citizens of Cape Charles will host the Debate of the 2008 Town Council Candidates. This event will be held at the Cape Charles Fire House on Thursday, May 1, 2008 starting at 7:00 PM. We urge ALL citizens who intend on voting in the Town Council Election on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 to attend this event and PLEASE ask questions of these outstanding candidates. Three of these candidates, once elected, will be responsible for carrying the Town of Cape Charles through a very crucial time of growth and commerce. COME OUT AND LISTEN TO THE ISSUES AND VOTE!

JEB BRADY, State of Virginia Fire Marshall

The Town just received official confirmation that Jeb Brady, Assistant Code Officer, passed his final examination to become a Fire Marshal for the State of VA. Congratulations Jeb on a job well done!
