Welcome to the official Town of Cape Charles Newsletter. This publication is available by submitting your email address to gazette@capecharles.org or by contacting the Town Office at 757-331-3259 x10.
The information contained in this newsletter is considered to be the “official word" on the Town’s activities as noted by our Town Manager. The Cape Charles Gazette will be a news source that will report weekly events, upcoming Town activities, articles of interest to our citizens, Town projects, safety & security issues, and emergency announcements. FROM THE TREASURER'S OFFICE During this past tax season I received many inquires regarding the use of credit cards to pay for property tax bills and utility payments. As part of our commitment to provide the citizens of the Town of Cape Charles with efficient and convenient services, I am pleased to announce the availability of credit card payments. You can now pay your Real Estate, Personal Property Tax and/or Utility Bills on line or by telephone. The provider, Official Payments Corporation, enables citizens to pay their municipal taxes and utilities by credit or debit card via the Internet or over the telephone. The payment process is simple and secure. Visit www.officialpayments.com or dial 1-800-272-9829. American Express®, Discover®, MasterCard®, and VISA® cards are accepted. Please note that Town of Cape Charles is assigned Jurisdiction Code 6240 which is required for telephone payments. A nominal fee is charged by Official Payments based on the transaction type and amount. The citizen is notified of this $3.50 fee for Utility payments or a small percentage of the tax before their tax payment is made. This fee is not charged by nor paid to the Town of Cape Charles. This convenience fee is assessed to cover operating costs and the costs associated with servicing credit card transactions. You will be informed of all charges and fees before you authorize the payment. You may calculate the exact fee online at www.officialpayments.com/pc_feec.jsp. When a citizen uses the service, two line items will appear on their credit card bill. One is for the tax or utility bill owed to the Town and the other is for the convenience fee charged by Official Payments.
