Councilman Melvin Reeder Dudley, Jr. has been a permanent resident of Cape Charles since 1999, and a homeowner since 1994. Before coming to Cape Charles, Councilman Dudley lived in Charlottesville, Virginia, and was employed for 40 years at Comdial Corporation before retiring in May of 1999. Councilman Dudley graduated from Lane High School, Charlottesville, and attended the University of Virginia for 3 years. His past and present affiliations include the following:

- Parsonage Committee for Trinity United Methodist Church, chairman
- Northampton County Anglers Club, secretary, past president

- Northampton County Electoral Board, past vice chairman
- Historic District Review Board, vice chairman
Councilman Dudley has been married to his wife, Janet, for 48
years, and has 4 daughters and 12 grandchildren. Councilman Dudley's term expires on June 30, 2008.
