Councilman John Burdiss

My wife and I chose to live in Cape Charles when we bought a dilapidated 3-story building on Mason Avenue in late 1996; we moved here in the summer of 1998.  We completed an extensive renovation of that historic commercial building and our home is on the 3rd floor.

Since 2005 my wife, Cela Burge, who was the Town Manager from 1998-2004, and I have been practicing attorneys.  We have four grown children and four grandchildren, they reside in four different Mid-Atlantic States.  We are active members of the Cape Charles Baptist Church.

Among the other leadership attributes that I offer as a council member are an extensive background in management and finance, including 18 years in banking and 16 years as a consultant in financial litigation, and I passed the national CPA examination.

Council must provide leadership, assuring that your government:

  • adheres to the highest standards of ethics and financial accountability;

  • functions at the highest levels of operational efficiency; and,

  • responds proactively to the changes in the demographics and the landscape of Cape Charles and the Eastern Shore that are obvious and ongoing.

We must strive to change in ways that are compatible with those things that have made this town special for over 100 years! I will work to help Cape Charles continue to be the town that brought us (and many others) here; a place of beauty, easy going life-style and a great place for kids and grandkids to visit and to live.  To build upon its recent successes, Cape Charles must also embrace inevitable changes and those who come here - they add to our town's vibrancy, economic vitality, and character.

Councilman Burdiss's term expires on June 30, 2010.
